ACCIDENT BLOCKS US 24

Wolcott - Monday morning just before 7:30, according to the State Police, a tractor trailer rig heading eastbound on U-S 24 in Wolcott, was going to fast into the curve when the semi rolled onto its side, crushing a minivan going westbound.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Jerrad Foutch revealed the Freightliner pulling a flatbed trailer with two rolls of aluminum driven by 33 year old Timothy M. Pritchett, from Hopkinsville, Kentucky was eastbound on US 24. As the rig was approaching the curve at the north end of Wolcott his speed was too fast for the road conditions and the rig started to roll onto its side. A Minivan driven by 50 year old Jeffrey L. Hendress, from Wolcott, was westbound on U-S 24 entering the curve. Hendress told authorities he saw the rig starting to roll onto its side and attempted to turn into the parking lot but was struck by the trailer as it rolled onto his minivan.

Hendress was pinned in his vehicle for about 20 minutes as Wolcott Fire and Rescue with assistance from Monticello EMTs removed him. Pritchett was able to exit his vehicle. Hendress was transported to St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette with right arm and left leg injuries. Pritchett was transported to Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with left arm and shoulder injuries. Neither appeared to be life threatening, according to the state police. All were wearing seatbelts

US 24 was closed for approximately one hour with traffic being diverted around the scene. The investigation is continuing.

RURAL LOGAN TEEN INJURED IN ACCIDENT

CLYMERS - Wednesday morning at approximately 7:45 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on State Road 25 south of County Road 175 West, near Clymers, that injured a Cass County teen.

Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Randy Pryor revealed that 17 year old Clayton Allen Stuart, of rural Logansport, was driving a GMC Envoy Northbound 25. He allegedly swerved to miss an animal on the roadway and lost control of the vehicle, and it traveled off the South side of the road, rolled three times, and came to rest against a utility pole.

Stuart was transported by ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital with a head injury. He also suffered multiple cuts and abrasions. Stuart was wearing a seat belt which authorities believe reduced the severity of his injuries and prevented Stuart from being ejected from the Envoy.
